JLR Q2 Wholesales Jump 24% as UK and Overseas Demand Offset China, Middle East Softness

JLR Q2 Wholesales Jump 24% as UK and Overseas Demand Offset China, Middle East Softness

Jaguar Land Rover reported wholesale volumes of 82,400 vehicles for the second quarter of FY27, the three months to 30 September 2026, marking a roughly 24% increase from 66,165 units a year earlier and a 4% rise over the previous quarter's 79,288. Retail sales, however, slipped about 7% year-on-year to 79,000 units, though they stayed nearly level with the prior quarter's 79,892.

JLR attributed the strong wholesale growth to a recovery from last year's cyber incident, noting that the hit to retail volumes had surfaced later in FY26 as dealer inventories ran down in subsequent months.

The UK and North America drove much of the gain. UK wholesales rose sharply to 21,000 units from 12,327 a year earlier and 16,255 in the prior quarter, with retails climbing to 18,500 from 14,171. North America wholesales increased to 27,100 from 17,879, with retails of 24,800 versus 22,918; the US market held steady and continued to make up roughly a third of total wholesales. European wholesales grew to 13,200 from 10,491, although retails there eased to 12,700 from 13,880. Overseas markets posted wholesales of 11,300, up from 10,888, with retails of 10,500 compared to 11,122.

China remained the company's weak spot. Wholesales in the China Region fell to 6,100 from 11,370 a year earlier and 8,660 in the prior quarter, while retails dropped to 6,300 from 10,604. JLR linked the decline largely to the June 2026 end of locally produced vehicles from its CJLR joint venture, whose retails collapsed to 900 units from 7,417 a year earlier and 5,335 in the first quarter.

In the Middle East and North Africa, continued disruption pushed wholesales down to 3,700 from 5,112 in the previous quarter, though still above the 3,210 recorded a year earlier. Retail volumes there actually rose to 5,300 from 3,406, which JLR said pointed to resilient underlying demand in the region.

By model, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Defender together accounted for 77.6% of total wholesale volumes, up from 76.7% a year earlier. Range Rover wholesales reached 44,900 units versus 38,796, Defender rose to 29,500 from 21,300, and Discovery climbed to 7,200 from 4,550. On retail, Range Rover sales fell to 43,300 from 47,196, Defender retails grew to 29,500 from 25,370, and Discovery retails dipped to 5,400 from 5,895; JLR noted Q2 FY27 retail figures include CJLR volumes.

Jaguar brand volumes kept shrinking as older models are phased out, with wholesales falling to 800 from 1,519 and retails dropping to 800 from 6,910. The company pointed to the upcoming launch of the Jaguar Type 01 in New York on 6 October as part of this planned transition.
