The RAC has strengthened its warranty offer for electric vehicle owners, extending battery failure cover under its EV One policy to vehicles up to 12 years old and 80,000 miles.
The enhanced protection applies to the RAC Warranty’s dedicated electric vehicle product, EV One, and covers full battery electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid models. Alongside the extended battery cover, a broad range of standard vehicle components are also protected to the highest level the company offers.

Lee Coomber, RAC client director at Assurant, the Fortune 500 company that partners with the RAC on aftersales products, said EV One was launched in 2020 as one of the earlier specialist warranties aimed at electric vehicle buyers. He said the product had given the company valuable insight into what customers look for when buying an electrified car.
“While concerns around battery failure have eased somewhat over the years, it remains an important consideration for many EV buyers, particularly those purchasing an EV for the first time,” Coomber said. “With this extension to existing EV One cover, we are providing additional reassurance for customers over a longer period of vehicle ownership.”
Under the revised terms, the EV One warranty can be applied to any electrified vehicle sold through an RAC dealer, provided it is no more than 12 years old and has done no more than 80,000 miles. Cover periods run for varying lengths up to 48 months, with claims able to be made at the supplying dealer or, subject to policy terms, at other approved repairers. Claims are capped at the value of the vehicle’s purchase price.
The policy defines a battery as having failed if it can no longer receive a charge, hold a charge, or discharge power to propel the vehicle. Where a replacement is required, the new component must deliver at least the same energy capacity the original battery had immediately before it failed, taking into account its age and mileage at the time.

Coomber pointed to rising demand for EV cover as more electrified vehicles enter the used market. He said EV policy sales at RAC Warranty in the first half of 2026 had already surpassed the total recorded across the whole of 2025.
“EV warranties now account for a significant proportion of our warranty sales and are continuing to increase strongly in the second half of this year,” he said. “Rapidly increasing numbers of used EVs are entering the market at just the moment when there is growing consumer interest in lower running-cost vehicles.”
