Ferrari Worth £3.7million Among 90 Supercars Seized in Met Police Crackdown

A Ferrari Monza SP2 worth £3.7million has been impounded by the Metropolitan Police after officers found the driver behind the wheel was uninsured and only held a provisional licence.

The ultra-rare supercar, one of just 499ever built by the Italian manufacturer, proved to be the standout vehicle caught up in a sweeping operation targeting dangerous and illegal driving across some of central London's most affluent districts.

Police said the driver had been behind the wheel for less than half an hour when stopped, and that the Ferrari had only entered the country the previous day. The combination of no valid licence and no insurance meant officers had little choice but to seize the vehicle on the spot, despite its eye-watering value.

The Monza SP2 was far from the only casualty of the three-day crackdown, which ran from Friday to Sunday. In total, the Metropolitan Police impounded 90 vehicles with a combined value exceeding £8million, as officers worked to clamp down on reckless and unlawful motoring in some of the capital's wealthiest neighbourhoods.

The operation reflects growing concern over the use of high-performance and luxury cars on London's streets, particularly in areas where supercars are often seen cruising through upmarket postcodes. Officers have increasingly focused on drivers who flout basic legal requirements such as holding a full licence and maintaining valid insurance, regardless of how expensive or exclusive their vehicle might be.

The seizure of the Monza SP2 is likely to draw particular attention given its exceptional rarity and price tag. As one of only 499 ever made, the model is considered a collector's item among supercar enthusiasts, making its confiscation a striking symbol of the operation's reach. Despite its prestige, the vehicle offered no protection from the consequences of being driven without proper documentation.

With dozens of other high-value cars also taken off the road during the same operation, the Metropolitan Police appear to be sending a clear message that wealth and exclusivity provide no exemption from the law. The scale of the crackdown, both in terms of the number of vehicles seized and their combined worth, underlines the extent to which illegal driving has become a concern in London's most prosperous pockets.

Authorities have not detailed what will happen to the seized vehicles, including the Ferrari, but impounded cars are typically subject to further legal proceedings depending on the circumstances of each case.
