Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC has widened a recall covering 23,677 vehicles after discovering an electrical fault that could cause affected SUVs and other models to suddenly lose drive power along with their exterior lights.

The issue stems from a malfunction in the vehicles' DC-DC converter, a component tied to the electrical system. When it fails, drivers could lose power to the wheels and headlights or taillights without any advance notice, raising safety concerns particularly in low-visibility or high-speed driving situations.

To fix the defect, Jaguar Land Rover plans to install an updated software program in affected vehicles at no cost to owners. The update will add a "limp-home" mode, a safeguard designed to alert drivers if the DC-DC converter begins to fail, giving them warning before losing full power rather than experiencing an abrupt shutdown.

The recall spans several of the automaker's newer SUV lineups, drawing from both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands, though specific model names were not detailed in the recall notice.
