Volkswagen ID. Tiguan Unveiled With Sharper Looks, New Tech and Up To 373 Miles of Range

Volkswagen ID. Tiguan Unveiled With Sharper Looks, New Tech and Up To 373 Miles of Range

Volkswagen has pulled the wraps off its new ID. Tiguan, a thorough overhaul of the ID.4 that brings fresh styling, a redesigned interior and reworked powertrains to the brand's electric family SUV.

Although built on the same foundations as the ID.4, Volkswagen insists the ID. Tiguan is far more than a simple refresh. The renamed model takes on the identity of the company's best-selling combustion SUV and will effectively replace both the ID.4 and the ID.5 coupe-SUV in VW's electric line-up.

Exterior changes see the ID.4's rounded, ID.3-inspired shape sharpened to better match the look of the ID. Cross, with a more upright front end and a full-width LED light bar featuring a 3D effect. Higher-spec models gain an illuminated VW badge, while the roofline and C-pillar now wear a single body colour instead of the old contrasting finish. The rear gets new 3D LED lights with welcome animations, and sportier R-Line versions add a larger gloss-black lower grille, vertical bumper LEDs, 20-inch alloys and a gloss-black diffuser. Responding to customer feedback, Volkswagen has also ditched the ID.4's flush door handles in favour of traditional pull handles.

Inside, Volkswagen says it has addressed widespread criticism of the ID.4's cabin, keeping only the drive selector and wiper stalk from the old car. Physical buttons return for climate controls and the steering wheel, along with individual window switches, improved materials and new ambient lighting, including a dash-wide ID. Light strip. The cabin is built around a 10-inch digital driver display, a 15-inch touchscreen running an updated Google-based system with over-the-air updates, and an augmented-reality head-up display. Buyers can also choose retro gauge styles inspired by past Tiguan, Golf, Touareg and Beetle models, plus — for the first time in Europe — a 12-inch passenger screen and two illuminated Qi2 wireless charging pads. Boot space grows to 534 litres, or 1,577 litres with seats folded, and single-motor versions gain a front storage frunk.

Volkswagen ID. Tiguan R-Line

The ID. Tiguan offers two battery sizes and three power outputs. Entry models use a 58kWh LFP battery with a 187bhp motor, delivering 279 miles of range. A 77kWh pack powers the long-range version, offering 282bhp and up to 373 miles, while the range-topping 4Motion all-wheel-drive variant produces 295bhp and 348 miles of range, hitting 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds. Charging tops out at 105kW or 165kW depending on battery.

The ID. Tiguan launches in early 2027 in Trend, Life, Style and R-Line trims, with pricing expected to rise slightly above the current ID.4's £37,000 starting point.
