Audi A6 Sportback E-Tron Sets Guinness World Record With 831 Miles On A Single Charge

Audi A6 Sportback E-Tron Sets Guinness World Record With 831 Miles On A Single Charge

Polish rally driver Miko Marczyk has done it again, this time swapping fuel for electrons on his way to another entry in the Guinness Book of World Records. The reigning European Rally Champion, who last year drove a diesel Škoda Superb an astonishing 1,759 miles on a single tank to claim a fuel-efficiency record, has now piloted an Audi A6 Sportback e-tron 831 miles on a single charge, setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance covered by a production EV without recharging.

Marczyk set off from near Kraków, Poland at 1:55 a.m. on September 11, heading toward the coastal town of Hel on the Baltic Sea before retracing his route back the way he came. He kept driving until the electric Audi finally ran out of juice, having covered a total of 831 miles — nearly double the A6 Sportback e-tron's official WLTP range rating of 483 miles. Notably, he wasn't given any special treatment on closed roads; the drive took place amid normal traffic conditions, including rush hour.

While hugely impressive, the achievement isn't the outright record for EV range. That distinction belongs to the TUfast Eco Team's muc022 prototype, which managed 1,599 miles using just a 15.5 kWh battery, though that run took place in a controlled setting inside a hangar rather than on public roads.

Several factors helped Marczyk pull off his real-world feat. The A6 Sportback e-tron boasts a drag coefficient of just 0.21, making it the most aerodynamically efficient Audi ever built, and it's fitted with a substantial 94.9-kWh battery pack. But the biggest factor was Marczyk's own driving technique. He relied heavily on regenerative braking throughout the trip, constantly anticipating traffic and road conditions ahead of time to avoid unnecessary braking or acceleration — a discipline that sounds straightforward but becomes far more challenging when navigating heavy rush-hour traffic.

The record stands as proof of what a production EV can achieve in the hands of a skilled driver, and it also serves as a strong real-world endorsement of the A6 Sportback e-tron's efficiency claims. Unlike lab-controlled range tests, Marczyk's drive played out on actual public roads with no special accommodations, making the result all the more notable. Given his track record of chasing down efficiency records across different vehicles and fuel types, it may not be long before Marczyk sets his sights on yet another record-breaking drive.
