This is a Gemballa Mirage GT like no other! I'm with Sean from TopGear Imports NJ to spook the concrete jungle in a one-of-one skeletal Carrera GT. While upgrading one of this cars to full exposed carbon panels, the idea to strip it down and give it a run came up... crazy, yes!
I first visited TopGear Imports a few years ago and went for a drive around Manhattan with Sean in his daily driven Carrera GT; not exactly the easiest car for this kind of driving it has to be said. He's owned a number of CGTs but also a few Mirage GTs which we saw on my previous visit earlier in the year to collect my Shelby GT500 for Preball ahead of the Gumball 3000. Now though, it's time to try something new...
Gemballa made 25 Mirage GTs, an upgraded Carrera GT in many ways with more power, more sound, more dramatic looks, a roof scoop, fixed wing, and plenty of other changes. Sean had the idea to build this one into an exposed carbon bodied car, and that meant stripping it fully back and temporarily having a car unlike anything you've seen before, quite literally a skeleton.
With Halloween fast approaching, somehow the idea came up to give it a run into the heart of New York City, as you do. The fun really begins with the reactions from passers by; "What is that?", "Where's the rest of your car?", you name it!
As unique experiences go, this is going to be hard to top! Thanks to Sean for his wild idea:
